In 1994, the seeds of Riley's community-led food basket initiative were planted in the basement of Riley Presbyterian Church, where canned goods were extended to those grappling with food insecurity.
As time unfolded, in 2013, a new chapter dawned as they found a welcoming haven within the walls of Riley City Library, enhancing accessibility for all. Now, this noble endeavor thrives through the collaborative efforts of ten churches, local clubs, and compassionate individuals, steadfastly committed to eradicating food insecurity from Northern Riley County. Yet, it transcends mere sustenance; it embodies the spirit of community, knitting hearts together in a tapestry of care and support.
Any individuals or families needing some food assistance are encouraged to get in contact with the Community Food Basket.
