William currently serves as an elected councilperson.

He was first appointed in May 2019 by then Mayor Tim Sharp to fulfill a vacant seat.  In November of 2019 he was elected in the general election to serve a 4 year term.

In his time on the council, he has been a part of the cities sewer relining project (completed in 2023) that was financed in part by a CBDG grant.  Also part of the opening of the Dollar General store, and Riley Medical Center.
